VNU Asia Pacific Joins Thai Chamber of Commerce and SOS Foundation in Sustainable Surplus Food Initiative
VNU Asia Pacific is proud to announce its participation in an impactful event organized by the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Scholars of Sustainability Foundation (SOS). This initiative aims to deliver 5 million safe surplus meals to those in need across the nation by the end of 2024, contributing to sustainable social and environmental conservation efforts.
On October 7, 2024, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, represented by the Processed Food and Future Food Committee, alongside the SOS Foundation, hosted a celebration in the Phasi Charoen Community, Bangkok. This event marked a significant milestone in their project to redistribute safe surplus food from the manufacturing sector, benefiting over 200 households in nearby communities. Ms. Panadda Kongma, Vice President – Business, VNU Asia Pacific and a committee member at the Thai Chamber of Commerce, actively participated in this event, reinforcing VNU’s commitment to social responsibility.
Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, emphasized the importance of this initiative. Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2022 to facilitate the delivery of surplus food, this partnership has become a lifeline for vulnerable groups affected by economic and social challenges, particularly those impacted by the ongoing repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The collaborative efforts of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and its members have successfully delivered over 5 million meals, significantly reducing food waste and its associated environmental impact. The initiative has led to a decrease of over 3 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions from food disposal, aligning with the government’s commitment to food security and sustainability.
Dr. Wisit Limluecha, Vice Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Processed Food and Future Food Committee, stated, “This project embodies our dedication to food security and sustainability within communities. Our approach is centered around the 4S concepts: SHARING food with those in need, fostering STRONG cooperation among agencies, SAVING our environment through tangible efforts, and ensuring the SUSTAINABILITY of our food supply chain.”
